This year I am teaching reading, ELA, and math in the resource room:
READING: I use the SRA Corrective Reading series with my reading students. Much research has been done on why direct reading instruction is an effective way to improve the reading skills of students who are reading below grade level. This program is phonics-based and works to correct common mistakes with students' reading. The program focuses on three areas of reading: decoding, comprehension and fluency.
ELA: Students in my ELA class have weekly spelling units with tests on Fridays. We also work on comprehension skills with novels read out loud as well as complete journal writes on chromebooks once per week, work on Daily Oral Language, Daily Analogies, and visualizing/verbalizing to increase comprehension and memory skills.
MATH: In math, we will cover four main units this year: unit 1: number sense and place value unit 2: addition and subtraction unit 3: multiplication and division unit 4: pre-algebra concepts and Hands-On Equations In addition to those units, we will also cover some basic geometry concepts.
